Great information about many of the remarkable places to visit in Europe, specifically France Also great humor along the way Funny but yet educational readMr Barry describes a once and a lifetime experience of living and learning about a different world in Paris It was very eye opening as my husband and I are exploring the option of going aboard and hoping to have just as much excitement in our trip He paints a clear picture so you feel you are accompanying him and his wife on this amazing trip This book is very hard to put down and it is an easy read It is quite amusing and entertaining If you are looking to do some traveling or just are looking for great read, look this one up. Fun, lighthearted journal of an adventure that we recently completed ourselves a month in the Fifth Arrondissement, a week in Avignon, side trips to Givernay, etc So I could easily relate to the Vagabond concept The book suffers a bit from the author s continual disappointment that Paris isn t America Yes, the elevators are tiny, there s no air conditioning, the weather is not ideal, and there aren t escalators everywhere Research would tell you to travel light and plan for the weather I live in the Sunshine State myself, but don t expect sunshine all over the world Also, editing is lacking two virtually identical descriptions of the floor numbering at the Louvre, etc Still, a recommended read for those considering extended travel in France and Western Europe. I m very glad the author included a ton of photos of places he described in his book. This was a fun and easy read that made me laugh and learn at the same time I enjoyed reading about the many places the author and his wife explored, especially the month in Paris I felt like I was there on the adventure The cultural differences were eye opening, and the variety of people they met and experiences they had were entertaining Definitely a book I will enjoy reading again Author admits that writing was an after thought to his diary of this trip It was also an opportunity to complain a lot about a fairly ill conceived plan to try to travel as cheaply as possible, since they were out on the street anyway Trying to enjoy yourselves while not ever eating out in a country known for its food and obsession with eating well You see my point When they weren t starving, they were freezing, wet and sick Loved it It was a wonderful read and fun to see how they were able to turn a challenging situation into a great adventure Very inspiring A quick, funny, and at times off color, travel memoir about Michael Barry s time spent abroad Made me want to travel again.
